Kai Forbath not interested in talking about Vikings drafting his replacement

Man, I’m one of those guys: Until you get hit in the mouth, I don’t know what you’ve got yet, Beachum said. “And he ain’t been hit in the mouth by an NFL defensive lineman. So when that time comes, we’ll see.”

This is a completely reasonable opinion. Nobody knows if Darnold will indeed become the Jets’ long-sought franchise quarterback. Coming out of USC, he wasn’t considered a sure-thing prospect, along the lines of Andrew Luck.

Hall of Famer Kurt Warner says he considered NFL return for 2018 season More SportsPulse: NFL insider Lindsay H. Jones details the grievance filed by the NFLPA on behalf of Eric Reid and the likelihood of the free agent safety and Colin Kaepernick playing in 2018. Former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner isn’t the first retired athlete to broach the idea of playing again. He’s just the latest. Warner, 46, was interviewed Monday during the broadcast of a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. It was Kurt Warner Day at Busch Stadium, and Warner garnered even more attention by saying he contemplated trying to play again in 2018.

Odell Beckham’s ranking shows how flawed the NFL’s ‘Top 100 Players’ list is More Nobody seems to like the NFL’s Top 100 Players list. Not even the players, who vote to put the list together. Every year, without fail, it gives us some ridiculous results — remember when NFL players thought Blake Bortles was better than Earl Thomas, Calais Campbell and Marcus Peters?

Kahlil McKenzie was drafted by the Chiefs with the 198th pick of the draft. Kansas City was eager enough to add McKenzie that they traded up to make sure he landed on their roster before the draft was out.

The younger McKenzie had 35 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks in his final season on the defensive line at Tennessee, but worked out as an offensive lineman for teams interested in seeing if he could switch sides in the NFL. The Chiefs apparently believe that he can make the jump as they announced him as an offensive lineman after making the pick.

He credited his father with helping him navigate the draft process this year, but the helping hand might be retracted a couple of times this season if McKenzie finds himself on the roster for games against Oakland.broncos_132_92e71f65b633c255-180x180

Judge throws out Vazquez

Severino struck out three in the fifth before first baseman Hanley Ramirez grounded out to second to end the frame.

Nunez then scored in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game 2-2 when center fielder Mookie Betts tripled past a diving Brett Gardner with two outs.

Stanton’s third multi-home run game of the season was his first at home. He finished with 10 two-home run games last season with the Miami Marlins, but he has never hit three home runs in one game.

Wilson hopes to have the 2.0 version of its Connected Football technology available for a wide release to college and pro teams later this year. In the meantime, the company is gathering feedback from some players and coaches at both levels, including Darnold and Palmer.

West, 27, led Baltimore with a career-high 774 rushing yards in 2016. Although he entered last season as the starter, he compounded a slow start with soft-tissue injuries that opened the door for Alex Collins to claim feature-back duties.

Even with the loss of leading rusher LeGarrette Blount, the Eagles boasts a deep backfield with Darren Sproles and Donnell Pumphrey returning from injuries to join Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood.

If West signs on with Philadelphia, he would face an uphill battle to make the team out of training camp.

Kamara, who will have his first shot to be the featured rusher, produced 728 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on 120 carries, averaging an eye-popping 6.1 yards per attempt. He added 826 yards receiving and five touchdowns on 81 catches.sharks-002

Pollack, Diamondbacks defeat Nats in series opener

A.J. Pollack homered and scored three runs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Washington Nationals 5-4 on Friday night.

The NL West-leading Diamondbacks have won five of six and are now 9-4 on the road. That matches Arizona’s 2000 team for the best road start in franchise history.

Zack Godley (4-1) allowed four runs on 10 hits over five innings to improve to 3-0 lifetime at Nationals Park. The Arizona bullpen retired 12 of the 13 batters it faced, with Brad Boxberger working a perfect ninth for his seventh save in as many attempts.

Stephen Strasburg (2-3) allowed a season-high five runs over 6 1/3 innings for Washington, which has lost five of its last six.

Nationals: OF Adam Eaton, who has not played since April 8 because of a bone bruise, was re-evaluated Friday. “His ankle has been improving so we’re hopeful that it’s not too far down the road,” general manager Mike Rizzo said.

Diamondbacks: LHP Patrick Corbin (4-0, 1.89 ERA), who is striking out 12.96 batters per nine innings, takes the hill Saturday in the second of a three game-series.

Nationals: RHP Jeremy Hellickson (0-0, 4.50 ERA) makes his first home start of the season. He’s 0-3 with a 5.32 ERA in four career starts against Arizona.

Browns general manager John Dorsey didn’t provide many hints on the team’s draft strategy when he met with reporters last week, saying he expected at least four quarterbacks to be picked in the first round.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has projected the Browns to select Mayfield at No. 1 in his final mock draft, while ESPN’s Todd McShay believes USC’s Sam Darnold will be the pick. Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen and UCLA QB Josh Rosen also could be in the mix.

Mayfield, who won the Heisman Trophy at Oklahoma, recently visited with the Browns and Dorsey referred to him as a “pleasant fella.”

The Browns are coming off an 0-16 season and have not made the playoffs since 2002, which is the longest active drought in the NFL. Since returning to the NFL in 1999, the Browns have had 28 different starting quarterbacks — the most in the league during that span.

Mayfield led FBS with a 70.5 completion percentage in 2017, and he set a single-season record by averaging 11.5 yards per attempt. He threw for 4,627 yards with 43 touchdowns and just six interceptions.dolphins_002

Rainout between Pirates and Tigers sets dubious MLB mark

The weather keeps wreaking havoc on the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Detroit Tigers.

Steady rain at PNC Park on Tuesday forced the clubs to postpone a game for the third time in the first month of the season.

Commissioner Rob Manfred applauded MLB’s new pace-of-play rules, saying the number of mound visits are “way down” and inning breaks are “significantly shorter” so far this season.

The game was the 28th postponement in the majors this season, the most related to weather through April since the commissioner’s office started keeping those records in 1986. Baltimore and Tampa Bay were also rained out on Tuesday.

Pittsburgh had more strikeouts than hits in each game while dropping a four-game set with Philadelphia last week. Hurdle pointed to his own experiences as a player as proof that when conditions aren’t ideal, hitting can become painful.

“Sometimes, you can only have one bad at-bat, the first at-bat of a game, in this kind of weather, (and) that can rearrange your mental furniture,” he said. “I know if I hit a ball right off the end of the bat, that first at-bat, I knew I didn’t want to do it again. Some of my aggressiveness might have leaked out of me.”

As evidenced throughout the series, Antetokounmpo continuously showed why he was the most talented player in the series. When the Bucks needed to find a way out of a rut, the Bucks’ phenom was there with a crucial play. Khris Middleton continued his huge series going 7-for-8 from the field and chipping in with 16 points, and Bucks point guard Malcolm Brogdon had 16 points of his own.

One of the key differences all night was the Bucks’ ability to get out in transition — they finished with 34 points on 13-of-19 shooting, compared to just six for the Celtics (2-of-3). And Milwaukee’s defense remained stout throughout the game, never allowing the Boston to find the kind of offensive rhythm it desired. Celtics guard Jayson Tatum finished with a team-high 22 points, but the Bucks maintained the edge down low, outscoring the Celtics 50-36 in the paint.sl_cardinals_044

After ‘kick in the stomach,’ Capitals believe they can rebound

A five-minute implosion made the Capitals look like the same old team in the playoffs.

They blew a two-goal lead for the fourth time in seven games to ruin an otherwise solid performance in a Game 1 loss to the back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Penguins. That Pittsburgh stormed back to win 3-2 seemed to suggest this would be yet another chapter in the long, miserable history for the Capitals against their nemesis: The Penguins have won nine of 10 postseason meetings between the two teams.

One of the most noteworthy parts of Cretors’ testimony was when she admitted, under questioning from McNair’s attorney, Bruce Broillet, that mistakes repeatedly occurred when investigators interviewed McNair. They asked McNair about a call between him and Lloyd Lake — one of the men who provided improper benefits to Reggie Bush while he was at USC — that they told him took place in January 2005. The call actually took place a year later and investigators never circled back with McNair to clarify their questioning after realizing the mistake was made.

Freeland (1-3) provided plenty of heat as the lefty struck out a season-high eight to earn his first win since July 30. But there was a moment of concern when Freeland was hit by a Chase Headley liner in the fourth. Freeland took a few warmup pitches and remained in the game. After that, his mechanics have rarely looked sharper, Rockies manager Bud Black said.

“It smoothed him out. He didn’t overthrow,” Black explained. “His focus might have been more heightened, because he was in a little bit of discomfort.”

Although the heel smarts, Freeland said it will “be all right.”

Colorado outfielder Noel Cuevas notched his first major league hit — a single down the line that looked like a sure double before he slipped on the first base bag. That’s about the only stumble for the Rockies in a game delayed 46 minutes by rain on a 37-degree evening. In an effort to stay warm, Nolan Arenado resorted to wearing a ski mask in the field.sl_cardinals_001

Giants ready to work with Eli Apple’s “God-given ability most people don’t have”

It wasn’t so long ago that Eli Apple‘s days with the Giants appeared numbered, but changes to the coaching staff have provided the cornerback with a new start in New York.

“Day one is Monday and every guy that walks in that room, day one is Monday,” Giants defensive coordinator James Bettcher said, via quotes distributed by the team. “So, whatever happened before, whether it was here or whether it was with a different team, guys that we draft, whether it was in college, whatever it was that has happened with guys, day one is Monday. Day one is the first day those guys walk in the building, and we’re going to build from there.”

Fitzpatrick’s age is the only reason the Bucs are not in better shape than the 49ers QB-wise. As Tampa stands now, with the 35-year-old Fitzpatrick bringing experience to his backup role behind Winston, it has a solid argument for the most reliable 1-2 combo in the league. That will change when Fitzpatrick’s contract expires and the Bucs have to pay Winston the starting QB money he deserves.

There have been reports that Beckham does not plan to step foot on the field until he has a contract extension, so the fact that he is not completely avoiding the team during the offseason is a positive sign.

Last July, he had another bone removed from the same ankle, the os trigonum.

Both were 10-to-15 minute procedures that have been much easily to deal with than the February 2016 shoulder labrum surgery that cost him an entire season.

“That one hurt,” Bird said “This one’s easy. The shoulder I worried about. That (rehab) went so long. This is cake compared to the shoulder. With the shoulder you’re like,’Damn, will I get back?’ You’re told you will, but there are some days going through the rehab process where you’re like,’Damn, this is different.’ But the two ankles I’ve had,… they just took a bone out. So that was fine.” bills_034

Malcolm Delaney has ankle surgery, needs 6-8 weeks to recover

Atlanta Hawks guard Malcolm Delaney, already out for the season, has had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle.

The expected recovery time is six to eight weeks. The Hawks will close their season with Tuesday night’s home game against Philadelphia.

Delaney has been out since March 6 with the left ankle sprain. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 assists in 54 games, including three starts.

The Grizzlies would match the franchise’s worst record (22-60) since the move to Memphis if they lose their final game.

The game was the first this year between the NL East rivals. The Mets went 7-12 against the Marlins last year.

Syndergaard allowed five hits, walked two and struck out five. He improved to 4-0 in six starts against the Marlins with an ERA of 1.62, 47 strikeouts and four walks.

Marlins: C J.T. Realmuto (back) is close to beginning a rehab assignment. … RHP Dan Straily (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon. … LHP Wei-Yin Chen (left elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday in Jupiter and is then expected to advance to extended spring training. … 3B Martin Prado (hamstring) played three innings in extended spring training. … 1B-OF Garrett Cooper (wrist) will wear a cast for at least a week. … RHP Elieser Hernandez (tooth infection) has been temporarily sidelined from a rehab assignment because of a broken finger nail.

The law enforcement investigation that led to the incident report and the conclusions reached therein was fraught with false statements of fact, implicated practically unheard of destruction of evidence and included references to evidence that never existed, the filing alleges.

The Florida wildlife agency’s investigation concluded that Fernandez was operating his boat when it hit a Miami Beach jetty in September 2016. Investigators also concluded that Fernandez was under the influence of cocaine at the time and had a blood alcohol content of.14.

Jeffery fell hard on his right shoulder early in training camp, back on July 30. He missed four days of practice and was held out of the preseason opener, after suffering what the team termed a shoulder strain. But Jeffery said Thursday, at an appearance at the Boys and Girls Club of Bridesburg, to deliver a $25,000 check from sponsor Kids Foot Locker, that when he got an MRI right after suffering the injury, there was talk of surgery right away, which he said would have cost him the season.

Jeffery, playing then on a one-year free-agent deal, didn’t think that was optimal.buccaneers_073

Although the Rams’ reported interest in Beckham is believed to be genuine, no team has overwhelmed Gettleman with an offer this week.

As Rapoport referenced, the 2013 Harvin blockbuster cost the Seahawks the Nos. 25 and 214 picks in the 2013 draft as well as the No. 96 pick in 2014. Beyond that war chest of draft capital, Seattle also gave Harvin a new contract, making him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league.

General manager Dave Gettleman can’t be blamed for expecting similar compensation — if not more — for a franchise cornerstone not even on the trade block in the first place. Beckham is a more complete, more productive receiver than Harvin was at a similar stage in his career.

Friday we dotted I’s and crossed T’s, got more people involved, including Baseball. And then Friday night he flew in, I believe, to Tampa or might have been Saturday morning, but a physical Saturday at Tampa, Florida at the complex, which is more challenging. Our doctor was here Friday with our trainers at the Winter Meetings, so we had to try to coordinate, do we get him back to New York Do we get him over to Tampa Where is he at He lives in Miami and he happened to be there. So at Saturday was a full day of physicals and then we didn’t get all the full workups, like blood results and stuff until this morning. So once that happened, the sign of the cross was in, and I know you guys have had this thing since probably Thursday night or Friday. So sorry, we have to catch up to your reporting, but we are here, we’re happy with where we are.

That’s footwork, delivery, getting away from center, his mechanics in the gun, getting the ball out quicker, being more accurate. All the things that every quarterback in this league is working on, he has to continue to refine those, Garrett said. Prescott suffered some regression in his sophomore season in 2017, experiencing significant declines in his completion percentage, yards per attempt average, and total number of passing yards. He threw for 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions after throwing 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions while leading the Cowboys to the playoffs in his rookie season.

Both Prescott’s and the team’s decline came amid the six-game suspension served by running back Ezekiel Elliott from Weeks 10 through 15. Obviously a couple years ago in his rookie year, we won 13 games and he was a big part of that. I thought we did a good job of attacking defenses a lot of different ways, Garrett said. Certainly we were predominately a running team, but he was very effective throwing the football.nike_broncos_051-500x500

Bills not ready to pull the trigger on draft trade

Perhaps the two easiest dots to connect in the looming quarterback draft market is between Buffalo and New York.

I am not there yet, knowing if we can or will move up again. I want Sean to get to know all of them. We’re just keeping an open mind. Where we’re at, we’ve got the picks, we’ve got the draft capital. I’m not ready to pull the trigger.

Honestly, there’s no real rush, as they put their board together with more than a month before they’d have to work. It’s still likely that the Bills will draft a quarterback somewhere, as they have A.J. McCarron and not much else of note.

They need the flexibility of cheap and young quarterbacks because they’re eating so much dead money, as Beane said he’s going to take about $45 million of his cap room to account for deals for guys no longer in Buffalo. It’s a deliberate strategy, as the tries to clear the books for 2019.

RW has six cannabis-based wellness products derived from Williams’ own formulations that can be incorporated into daily health routines.

It’s a dream come true for me to merge my passion for healing and my fascination with plant medicines with my entrepreneurial spirit. Cannabis has played an important part in my healing journey, and I feel a responsibility to share what I have learned in the process, said Williams, RW’s founder and brand leader.

RW’s product assortment includes either hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or a mix of both. Through carefully chosen delivery methods of salves, tonics and vape cartridges, all six products allow consumers to harness the positive effects of cannabis in a more conscious and controlled way.jets_061

Tavon Austin restructures deal to stay with Rams

Tavon Austin was drafted to be the Rams’ X-factor, and while he flirted with the role from time to time, he never fully filled it.

It seemed after a year in which Los Angeles turned to other options to stock its receiving corps, Austin was on his way out. He was making far too much money ($14.97 million cap hit in 2017) to justify his marginal usage (13 catches, 47 yards; 59 rushes, 270 yards, one touchdown in 2017).

Also, whoever lands Jordy Nelson and Ndamukong Suh would have an argument for being on here too. 1) Cleveland Browns It’s one thing to have a lot of draft currency stocked up, but it’s a complete other to make good use of it. Former Browns exec Sashi Brown loaded up on future draft picks before losing his job with Cleveland.

New GM John Dorsey has come in and gotten some impressive hauls with the excess picks while still keeping many for the upcoming draft. The Browns acquired Tyrod Taylor, Jarvis Landry and Demarious Randall via trades. That gives them their best quarterback in years, a play-making wide receiver, and a good defensive back. They also signed running back Carlos Hyde, which should serve as a strong replacement for Isaiah Crowell, whom they lost to the Jets. Further, Cleveland has said that signing Hyde would not prevent them from drafting Saquon Barkley. On top of adding Randle, the Browns signed T.J. Carrie to a four-year, $31 million deal, giving them a nice cornerback duo.

Butler also suggested that the matchups against the Eagles receivers may have played a role as well, in speaking with Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. So we still don’t know exactly why Butler was benched. Maybe he was ill during the week, or maybe he was out partying a bit too hard. If the latter was the case, it wouldn’t be a good look for him or the Patriots organization, so that’s a scenario where both parties would favor a vanilla reason such as “matchups” rather than what actually happened. It doesn’t matter now, though, as that’s all water under the bridge, and Butler has a fresh start with a new team. This is likely the last we’ll hear about it.

The Broncos landed their quarterback at the start of free agency when they signed Case Keenum to a two-year deal and they’ve also created cap space to use for other moves this offseason. They did so by reworking linebacker Von Miller ‘s contract.ravens_022
